The latest collaboration between ASICS and OTTO 958 is here! Meet the ASICS Protoblast-CMLVIII, a reimagined version of the classic silhouette. The “CMLVIII” represents 958 in Roman numerals, tying back to OTTO 958—an experimental project by longtime ASICS collaborator Kiko Kostadinov and Al Moran, founder of the International Art Gallery Morán Morán.
Lightweight Comfort & Heritage Inspiration
Right out of the box, the FF Blast midsole makes these feel incredibly light. Despite its chunky appearance, the midsole is ultra-comfortable and responsive. The upper design draws inspiration from three heritage Asics models: Gel 100, GelBurst, and Gel Hoop 6.
A Unique Design Without the Tiger Stripes
One major change? No ASICS Tiger Stripes. Instead, you’ll find OTTO 958 branding stitched in brown, alongside a tan lace encased in a plastic tube running along the medial and lateral sides. The upper consists of brown mesh and synthetic leather, though the leather looks so premium that it’s hard to tell it’s synthetic. ASICS truly pulled this off, it’s such a big win for them!
Finishing Touches & Fit
A distinct tan Otto “O” logo sits on the toebox, while Asics branding appears on the tongue, heel, insoles, and sole. Unique gill-like fast lace loops hold the tan dotted rope lace, complemented by pull tabs on the tongue and heel.
At first glance, this collab looks like a premium low-cut basketball sneaker. But look closer, and you’ll notice Asics’ heritage panels blended with Kiko’s signature design language. They fit true to size but have a narrow toe box, so wide-footers should go half a size up.
Retailing at $330 AUD, the ASICS x Otto 958 Protoblast-CMLVIII is available now at asics.com.au.
