BENTGABLENITS has joined forces with ASICS on four special edition GEL-1130s. Leaning into the footwear brands’ retro heritage running shoe, BENTGABLENITS adds its own unique flair that pays tribute to the Canadian imprint’s initiative to repurpose forgotten treasures.
Continuing to expand on its upcycling roots, aiming to reinvigorated wardrobe staples with their own signature textural decorations and vibrant adornments, BENTGABLENITS and ASICS have revealed pairs of one-of-a-kind shoes, all of which feature a different combination of vintage Cracker Jack and gumball charms, attached throughout the shoe. Each of the charms have been meticulously sourced over the course of five decades around the world, most of which have dated between the 1930s and 1970s. Ahead of the release, the BGN team released a short film to encapsulate the feeling that is reminiscent of finding a prize in every box. Taking inspiration from the specially designed shoe box from Edith Di Monda, specifically for the collaboration, the entirety of the roll out tells an all encompassing story of finding treasure troves.
Each pair of the BENTGABLENITS x ASICS GEL-1130 shoes take on BGN’s meticulous care and attention to detail, hand-sewing the antique charms onto the shoe’s canvas. The general release editions arrives in two colorways, one in a classic black and white color scheme and the other in a white, green and blue mix featuring hand-dyed velvet laces. Both feature plastic charms from the ’60s and than 200 pairs will be available for general release. Since each shoe is essentially one-of-one, the BENTGABLENITS x ASICS GEL-1130 collaboration truly propels the idea of finding “A Prize in Every Box.” The shoes launch on July 20 at Dover Street Market Ginza in Japan.
