Initially, I thought this was the weakest of the three colorways in the pack. However, once I saw them in hand and on foot, they quickly became my favorite.
Today, we’re taking a closer look at the Khaki/Clay Canyon colorway. Coming from the tripack collaboration between Gallery Dept. and the ASICS-GEL K1011. This new silhouette from ASICS draws heavy inspiration from the Kayano series. This particular colorway pays homage to ASICS’ trail-running heritage.
The design features sage green mesh as the base. Overlaid with rich brown leather. Meanwhile, a black leather mudguard and black laces adds contrast at the toe box and uppers of the kicks. Key branding details include a stitched ASICS “A” logo on the tongue and a TPU-embossed logo on the heel. Complemented by a stitched purple ASICS logo on the lateral heel and an orange Gallery Dept. tab. The insoles showcase ASICS and Gallery Dept. co-branding. When paired together, the toe boxes spell out “DEPT.”
The midsole stands out with its flowing texture and dark blue gel accents at the forefoot and heel, adding both style and cushioning. The outsole features rectangular traction lugs for added grip with pops of orange, while TPU shank plates on the lateral and medial sides complete the sturdy construction.
What once seemed like the least exciting colorway based on online photos has completely won me over in real life. The Khaki/Clay Canyon palette exudes an outdoorsy, nature-inspired vibe, making it the most versatile and understated option in the tripack. Meanwhile, the GEL-K1011 silhouette delivers exceptional support, responsiveness, and comfort, whether you’re tackling rugged trails or styling them for the city.
Shoutout to ASICS and Gallery Dept. for introducing this amazing new model. They fit true to size (TTS) like the Kayano 14, but wide footers may want to size up half a size. If you’re looking to grab a pair, a few sizes are still available at Highs and Lows for $440 AUD.
