For fans of Jordan Brand, July serves as an exciting month each year as the Jumpman team often utilizes it to reveal its latest entry in the legendary Air Jordan series. Following last year’s unveiling of the Air Jordan 38, we’ve now been treated to the official announcement of the Air Jordan 39. Both its initial “Sol” colorway, which has been presented with a complete set of imagery, and a special Chris Paul PE were spotted previously, and we now have a look at nine of the in-line launches that are scheduled for the foreseeable future.
By studying Michael Jordan’s sharp cross-step, Jordan Brand crafted the Air Jordan 39 to emphasize the wearer’s explosiveness. It’s the first time that full-length ZoomX foam and Air Zoom are present in a basketball shoe, offering ample cushioning. As for the upper, it utilizes an embroidered textile that sports a computational design that Nike Sport Research Lab derived from its testing. Looking to the outsole, a translucent herringbone traction is similarly based on NSRL testing and has been reinforced at key pivot areas.
A true performance-oriented design, its presence is not as eye-catching as its predecessors. “Our values with the Air Jordan 39 came down to things like shape, proportion and stance,” shared senior design director Joël Greenspan. “We didn’t want to build a spaceship that was overtly aesthetic.” While many of the revealed colorways reflect this subtle approach to appearance with black and white compositions, there are still some, like the all-red rendition, that are sure to stand out.
The Air Jordan 39 is set to debut in its “Sol” colorway on July 23 via Nike SNKRS and select retailers at a starting price of $200 USD. Stay tuned for additional updates as closer looks at the other eight pairs arrive in the months to come.
