Giannis Antetokounmpo has been the focal point of many trade talks recently, despite neither him nor the Milwaukee Bucks indicating that they want to move on from their 12-season history together, one that saw them crowned as NBA champions in 2021. However, a partnership of his that is sure to continue is with Nike Basketball. The two teased the Nike Giannis Freak 7 back in March, revealing initial colorways, including the orange “Ignition” pair that will serve as its launch look later this month.
Antetokounmpo’s deadly Euro step serves as the focus of the Giannis Freak 7. A full-length Cushlon 3.0 midsole pairs with a zonally engineered “ANTETOKOUNMPO” traction pattern to ensure he can maneuver past defenders with ease. Mechanically engineered grooves are present throughout the sneaker, allowing the shoe to flex and compress for comfortable containment. As for the upper, it taps into his Greek lineage with its heel lockdown system that draws inspiration from Greek sandals. Leading the sneaker’s rollout is this “Ignition” colorway that nods to Antetokounmpo’s intensity, both in practice and play.
“I have to cover space quickly, so my shoe has to have incredible grip and be stable enough to move side to side when I play. The Giannis Freak 7 accomplishes that and more, bringing the performance I need to power my game in a design that reminds me of my heritage and how much I’ve worked to get here,” shares Antetokounmpo.
For those eager to pick up the Nike Giannis Freak 7, the new sneaker is set to release globally on July 29 in its lead “Ignition” colorway via Nike and select retailers. Our initial report in March saw the shoe labeled with a $110 USD price point. However, with Nike’s price increases last month, it’s possible it will cost slightly more. Stay tuned for updates, including the unveiling of additional colorways, as we look forward to Antetokounmpo performing in the kicks next season.
