Usually when somebody celebrates their birthday, they’re the ones that get gifts. That wasn’t the case for us when Dwyane Wade celebrated his 35th birthday. In a bizarre, but totally welcome change, it was us doing the gift-receiving as we got sent a pair of the Li-Ning Way of Wade 5 Birthday.
Limited to only 35 packages (get it?), the birthday box include a pair of the aforementioned shoes and a special WoW 5 t-shirt. The WoW 5 Birthday is a special black, grey, white and gold colorway with reflective 3M materials all throughout the upper, giving it a totally different look when it’s up against the bright lights as you’ll see in the GIFs below. All jokes about D-Wade now being a senior citizen in basketball years aside, it’s quite an accomplishment to get to five signature shoes regardless of what brand you’re on. And considering Wade was playing at an All-Star level and was still winning NBA championships with the Miami Heat during his leap to Li-Ning during the summer of 2012, this is all the more noteworthy. The ride wasn’t always easy as Wade can attest to when he had a chance to speak with him in late 2015, but it was worth the time and effort because of where he is now in his career and where he plans to be after he hangs up his Li-Nings for good.
