It’s not everyday that the KoF offices get three separate packages in the mailbox from multiple brands, and it is especially rare when we get packages from one brand at three separate times in a single day. But that’s what happened yesterday as we received not one not two but three boxes from adidas and we unboxed them live on Periscope for people to see. The interactivity of chatting with our followers and the hilarity of banning clowns who having nothing but hateful things to say is fun, to say the least.
First we have been the adidas Afterburner 2.0 cleats celebrating Jackie Robinson Day. The Sprintskin upper features a special print that includes a sketch of Robinson from his playing days at UCLA along with a variety of newspaper articles that talk about his many accomplishment in the game of baseball. The wool side panels add a sense of history to the cleat as it was a material frequently used by players at the time. But as we all know Robinson is known for far more than being just an amazing ballplayer, as he is one of the most important and influential athletes of the 20th century.
I knew beforehand the adidas Matchcourt Slip was going to the get the “Damn Daniel” response from the crowd because of their similarity to the now-popular Vans slip-on that has become something of an internet phenomenon. While I tend to view slip-ons mostly for formal wear and higher end shoes, it’s the type of kicks that’s perfect for the skater on a budget.
And then there’s the BAIT x adidas Originals Stan Smith Vulc Happy. With a natural hemp pressed upper and a variety of details that seem to be pointing towards a time of day that people seem to enjoy a particular activity, the sneaker has a lot of fun with the theme. Yes, the pocket underneath the tongue is very convenient for hiding things that you might not want certain authority figures to see.
