Back in March, Nike took to its Innovation Summit in New York City to unveil — alongside the likes of the self-lacng HyperAdapt 1.0 — the Zoom Superfly Flyknit. A custom track spike for Allyson Felix, the Zoom Superfly Flyknit was created using rapid 3D prototyping and is the culmination of Nike’s current 3D tech — a technology that kicked off with the Laser Talon in 2013 before seeing a football equipment collection and Vapor HyperAgility in the years that followed. Today the Swoosh announced that it’s taking its 3D printing game to the next level, teaming up with none other than HP for a new partnership.

According to Nike, the partnership will help it realize its “goal of scaling the technology to deliver greater performance innovation faster” and build off of its current 3D printing innovations and Selective Laser Sintering technology. Said Nike Innovation President Tom Clarke:

At Nike we innovate for the world’s best athletes. We’ve been using 3D printing to create new performance innovations for footwear for the past several years. Now we are excited to partner with HP to accelerate and scale our existing capabilities as we continue to explore new ways to manufacture performance products to help athletes reach their full potential.
