This year, Superga commemorates the 100th anniversary of its original 2750 plimsoll. As one of the first footwear models created by the brand, its landmark milestone is set to bring a series of events and special releases over the coming months.
To kick off its celebrations, Superga has just launched a new campaign honing in on the sneaker’s long-standing connection to tennis. In an action-packed clip, the 2750 is seen on a sun-soaked clay court in classic colorways of “White” and “Red”, capturing the multifaceted and supremely versatile design that continues to speak to style-conscious sportspeople.
The heritage of the model, however, goes beyond its presence in sports. In 1925, the sneaker began life after Superga founder and footwear engineer Walter Martiny experimented with Charles Goodyear’s vulcanization process on the soles of canvas shoes. His creation – now known as the 2750 – became Italy’s first vulcanized plimsoll and, ever since, has been lauded for its lightweight yet robust makeup.
Still retaining its “made in Italy” status, the refined silhouette has gone on to be a firm footwear choice for holidaymakers as well as fashion It-girls, commonly spotted in the off-duty looks of Alexa Chung, Hailey Bieber, and Suki Waterhouse. Touching the realms of fashion and sport, it is expected that the 2750’s evolving history will be the focal point of celebrations this year, with events and pop-ups taking place in Paris, Milan, London, and more.
