Nike’s LD-1000 silhouette quietly returned last Summer, and has popped up in new colorways each season since. This year, the retro runner is getting a textile upgrade with a new tweed edition, coming soon.
Nike’s LD-1000 originally launched in 1977, and was marketed as a huge leap in running innovations. The shoe used their patented Waffle outsole technology for traction, and featured a wide, flare heel that was intended for stability and traction for road runners. However, the silhouette was recalled, for actually causing more injuries than it prevented. Over the years, Nike has used the iconic silhouette as a reference point for many releases, including sacai’s beloved LDWaffle. Now, the model has returned as a simple lifestyle trainer.
This season, the LD-1000 is taking a fun step forward into the lifestyle world, with a new textile twist. The new pair will take on a tweed upper, though this look does not appear to be associated with the Harris Tweed Dunk series coming this Fall. Seen here in a “Dark Smoke Grey” color scheme, the tweed textile blends some soft pearl white hints into the black-based weave. Dark grey nubuck makes up the toe caps and lacing system, secured in place by white contrast stitching.
